Meet Chukwudi Uraih — The Financial Engineer

I was raised in a household that valued hard work, sacrifice, and education. My parents immigrated from West Africa with a suitcase full of dreams and very little else. My father became a pharmacist. My mother, a teacher. They pushed through every hardship to give us a chance at something better. So I did what many first-gen kids do. I followed the plan:

Get the grades.
Earn the degrees.
Secure the job.
Keep going.

I became an engineer, served my country, and worked on submarines. But no one prepared me for what came next: I became the retirement plan. Not by choice—but by circumstance. When my father passed, I wasn’t just grieving—I was figuring it all out. The finances. The burial rites. The estate. The bills. There was no roadmap. No advisor. Just me—and the weight of responsibility. That moment reshaped my life. I realized that so many of us—first-gen professionals in STEM and healthcare—are building wealth while carrying family, culture, and expectations on our backs. We’re navigating complex money decisions:
